Welcome to your guide for setting up the SiftHub Bot for Google chat. Follow the steps below to install and configure the bot.

Connection Requirements: Ensure you have the following access and permissions before you begin the setup, or contact the respective administrator for the same.
- Google Workspace administrator: Your organization’s Google Workspace settings might require that the workspace administrator allows the SiftHub app to be installed by the users of your org. If such is the case, contact your organization’s Google Workspace administrator.
Note: To make an app available only to some users, first put their user accounts in an organizational unit or in an access group. Then only allow the app only for those organizational units and groups.
Step 1. Allowlist SiftHub App
- Sign in with an administrator account to the Google Admin Console.
- Click “Allowlist app”.
- Search for SiftHub and next to the app, click SELECT.
- Under Select access, Allow users to install this app and click CONTINUE.

Select the users (To only allow installation for an organizational unit or group, select the organization unit/group and the app is excluded for all other users) and click SAVE and FINISH.

Step 2. Allow users to install SiftHub App
- In the Admin console, go to Menu > Apps > Google Workspace > Google Chat > Chat Apps.

Click Chat Apps.

To only allow users for a specific department or team, at the side, select an organizational unit.
- Under Allow users to install Chat apps, select On and click SAVE.

Step 3. Install SiftHub App
You can install the SiftHub app using one of the following methods. Click Google Workspace Marketplace to visit the SiftHub app listing, where you will see multiple options for Admin install, Individual install, and Add to Space.
Note: As an administrator, you can admin install the SiftHub app for users configured in Step 1 and Step 2 in your organization. Individual install is for when you want to allow each user to install the SiftHub app individually. Add to space is for when you want to configure the app in a particular space(s).
Option 1: Admin install
When you install the app on behalf of your organization, the SiftHub app appears within the users direct messages panel. After you install the app, it can take up to 24 hours for the app to appear in users’ direct messages panel.

Click Admin install > CONTINUE.

Select Everyone at your organization > FINISH (This will still only install the app for the organizational units/groups configured in Step 1 and Step 2).
- Once installed, the SiftHub app will appear in the chat list.
Option 2: Individual install
Individual install is for when you want to allow individual users to manage app installation.
- Click Individual install.
- Once installed, the SiftHub app will appear in the chat list.
Option 3: Add to Space
Add the SiftHub app to a space, allowing users to interact with it directly within a space conversation.

Click Add to Space > CONTINUE.

Search for Space you want to add SiftHub to and Continue.
- The SiftHub app will be added as a member to the selected Space(s).
Step 4: Activate the bot
Once the app is enabled for installation, reach out to your SiftHub Customer Success Manager to activate the SiftHub Bot for your organization. This will take approximately 24 hours.
Step 5. Generate responses using SiftHub Bot
1. Direct Message
a. Under Apps, select SiftHub.
b. You can directly ask your query in the “Chat” tab of the app to get a response from your connected knowledge.
2. Group / Space
You can ask questions to the bot in any Group or Space -
a. Type in @SiftHub in the chat box and press Enter.
b. If the Bot is not added to the Group / Space, you will be prompted to add it first.
c. Mention @SiftHub followed by your query for generating responses.
For a Group:
Responses in a group will be generated as a new message and will be only visible to you (not shared across the Group)
For a Space:
Responses in a Space will be generated as a reply in the thread and will be only visible to you (and not shared across the Space)
